Radiant Opto-Electronics Corporation | 2025-02-18

S&P Global has recently unveiled the 2025 S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook, with 70 Taiwanese companies making the list—an increase of 17 compared to 2024, marking a historic high. Among the notable companies selected are Wintek Corporation (3105), Chicony Power Technology (4958), Nanfang (4766), Yao-Hwa Pharmaceutical (6446), Kong Yang Technologies (1785), and Gamania Digital Entertainment (6180), among others. Li Hongji, Founder and CEO of QIC, noted that this year not only saw several companies re-selected, but also many Taiwanese companies making their debut on the list. This reflects a growing commitment across industries to sustainable development and innovative practices.

The S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook is based on the Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA) methodology used by the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI), which evaluates companies' performance in three key areas: Environmental (E), Social (S), and Governance (G). Li Hongji, Founder and CEO of QIC, stated that the assessment not only helps companies understand their position within their respective industries but also enhances their visibility in the global sustainable investment market. The 2025 assessment covers 62 major industries and 7,690 companies globally, with only 780 companies selected. Taiwan has 70 companies in the yearbook, spanning industries such as semiconductors, electronic components, biotechnology, chemicals, and financial services.

In the semiconductor industry, 210 companies were assessed globally, with 19 making the final list, 10 of which are from Taiwan, including UMC (2303), ASE Technology Holding (3711), Nanya Technology (2408), Wintek, Powertech Technology (6770), TSMC (2330), Wintek, Phison Electronics (8299), Winbond Electronics (2344), and Radiant Opto-Electronics (6176). Chen Shun-Ping, General Manager of Wintek, highlighted that the company has been recognized for six consecutive years in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook. He emphasized their commitment to energy conservation, carbon reduction, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace to strengthen their sustainability competitiveness.

In the electronic components sector, eight Taiwanese companies were selected, including Yuan Tai (8069), AU Optronics (2409), Delta Electronics (2308), Innolux (3481), Chicony Power Technology, Foxconn (2317), Qisda Corporation (4915), and Wistron (3715). Shen Qingfang, Chairman of Chicony Power Technology, mentioned that as a leader in the PCB industry, the company would continue to work closely with upstream and downstream partners to promote green manufacturing, reducing the environmental impact through energy-saving and emission reduction measures. In the biotechnology and pharmaceutical industry, Yao-Hwa Pharmaceutical (6446) was selected for the second consecutive year, receiving the "Best Industry Progress Award" as the only Taiwanese company in this category. Yao-Hwa emphasized its ongoing commitment to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG3—"Good Health and Well-being." The company aims to develop best-in-class new drugs, improve healthcare accessibility, and become a global leader in biopharmaceutical innovation.

This year’s debutants are also noteworthy. Among them, Gamania Digital Entertainment (interactive media and entertainment), Nanfang (chemicals), and Kong Yang Technologies (electronics) all made their first appearance in the yearbook. Gamania Group shared that it began its "Sustainability Transformation" ESG strategy in 2021, strengthening corporate governance through digital technologies. This year, it achieved top rankings in global industry peers for governance and social performance in the S&P Global Sustainability Assessment. Nanfang's CEO, Xu Mingxian, highlighted that the company has long been dedicated to environmental protection, energy-saving, and carbon reduction, actively promoting greenhouse gas emissions inventories and energy management. Their ongoing efforts have shown positive results and earned recognition in both domestic and international ESG assessments.

The impressive performance of Taiwanese companies in the S&P Global Sustainability Yearbook demonstrates the increasing focus and effort on ESG. As the trend of sustainable investment continues to rise, Taiwanese companies are expected to further enhance their visibility on the international sustainability stage.
